Good afternoon!

I just received an email stating that the application for the Christmas parade is online.  I am going to fill out the application and fax it in within the next week.

I won't be able to make the September meeting due to a prior commitment, so I am sending a quick email with the basic info and will fill you in more in October.

The date for this year's parade is Saturday, December 1 at 9am. We would need to be checked in before 8am, but typically meet up in Williamsburg at around 7:15, so this has not yet been an issue.

Cars must be decorated for Christmas. The theme is:
  • “Lights, Camera, Christmas....Capturing the Season”
It is always a lot of fun!  Please be thinking about whether or not you would like to participate this year.  We are limited to 8 cars.  Air-cooled are preferred, but we've had a nice mix of water-cooled in the past as well.

Some possible T-shirt options.  Hear's a link to Spreadshirt.com T-shirt using my chromed version of our logo. It's not very big. I'll have to redo it with higher resolution. For now you can get these shirts or use the designs uploaded to make your own shirt. Search for pVWc or "Peninsula Volkswagen Club"

Re: Charity committee

Talked to Ms. O'Brien from Link of Hampton Roads (903-5206, J.k.obrien@cox.net) & she suggested some of us sit down with them to talk about the options.
She suggested one way we could help by "adopting" one of the veterans they are helping by including him in our activities.
Please let me know if anyone has time for a meeting.

Just a preliminary email to see if I can get everyone's contacts
together that wanted to help out with the Charity committee.  I'm also
copying officers just to keep everyone up to date.  Please "reply to
all" and let us know who else should be on this email and if any of
you don't want to be.
We will be gathering information and going over a few options for the
club to participate in a charity.  One of them to consider is LINK of
Hampton Roads which has a few different programs we may want to look
at like the "Share the Spirit/Adopt a Family" program and the "Reach
out to Veterans" program.  Here's a link:

Please feel free to start contributing ideas and help get the rest of
the contacts on here too.

Fwd: VW salvage yard in Winnabow NC (?)

Subject: VW salvage yard in Winnabow NC (?)

I received a message from a guy on thesamba.com about a VW salvage yard that was listed on Craigslist.  Here is his message to me, and the link to the Craigslist ad follows the message. I do not have any other information other than what is contained in this email message.

"Spread the word around, this guy has 10 acres of old vw's up in the woods. I just bought a steering column with complete wiring harness and gauges and a pair of popout windows from him. He used to run a vw engine repair shop in Virginia in the early 80's and brought these down then, so the bodies are very rusty. Lots of transmissions and front ends, glass, gauges, taillights, more popout windows, etc... I saw at least 2 IRS bus transmissions still sitting in the buses (those buses weren't sunk down into the pine needles either). I didn't see the whole place, so not sure what all he had...The ad was posted by a friend of his, and the sentence about "must remove the whole car.." is a misprint..."

1/2" Electric Solenoid Valve 12-Volt Air, Water... B21N | eBay

Found an in-line electronic shut-off valve that can be used to turn off the fuel supply when no power is applied.  This solves the intermittent or slow leakage past the carburetor float valve or use for security and safety.
